Human Rose is a small app for staying close to people through short, live voice-and-vapor calls and the roses you send each other, and for meeting new people around real things you have in common. We don't sell your data to anyone. Your exact location and email are never shown to other people, and what is shown (your name, voice, and vapor) is described in "What other users can see" below.
| Data | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Account info (email, Apple or Google sign-in, or an anonymous device identity) | To sign you in and keep your profile, friends, and messages tied to your account across sessions. |
| Profile info you choose to add (name, age, a line about you, "World" things you type, photos you add) | To show to people you connect with, and to power matching itself. |
| Photos you add (from your library or camera) | Stored so your connections can see them. Each photo is automatically checked by OpenAI's moderation service to catch content that breaks our rules. |
| Location (foreground only, while the app is open) | To match you with people in a similar area and show approximate distance. We never track your location in the background, and we never show your exact coordinates to anyone. |
| Bluetooth and local network (nearby) | To notice other Human Rose users close to you, only while the app is open. This is never used to follow you around. |
| Camera — live vapor | Powers the live "vapor" visual during a call. Your actual camera feed — the video itself — is processed on your own device and is never uploaded or stored. During a live call, your device sends the other person's device a real-time outline of your silhouette (a few hundred x/y coordinate points, redrawn several times a second), never a picture or video frame. |
| Vapor recordings | When you record a vapor reaction or a vapor portrait, we store the traced outline (the coordinate points, not video) so the person you sent it to can replay it. If you choose to attach a still picture or video clip to a rose, that file is stored too. |
| Microphone — live calls | Real-time voice audio during a call goes between the two devices. If the devices can't connect directly, it passes through a relay server (run by Cloudflare) in encrypted form that the relay cannot listen to. We never record or store the audio of a live call. |
| Microphone — recorded voice clips | A voice recording you make on your profile, or as a reply on a rose, is stored so the person you sent it to can listen. Profile clips are also transcribed automatically so their content can be used for matching (see below). |
| Messages and roses you send | Stored so your conversation and your garden are there the next time you open the app. |
| Push notification token | So we can notify you about a call, a rose, or a message. You can turn notifications off in your phone's Settings. |
| Purchase status (Human Rose Plus) | Apple handles payment; we only receive whether your subscription is active, through RevenueCat. We never see your card details. |
| Crash and error reports | If the app crashes, technical details (device model, app version, what went wrong) are sent to Sentry so we can fix it. These reports are not used for advertising. |
| Reports and blocks | If you report someone, or someone reports you, we keep the report to enforce our rules. Repeated reports can lead to a warning or a temporary or permanent suspension. Blocking someone only affects what you see and who can reach you. |
Human Rose can suggest people you might connect with. To do that, the things you type into your World, and the transcript of your profile voice recording, are converted into a mathematical representation (an "embedding") by OpenAI's API so we can compare them with other users' and suggest people who share something real with you. It is not a personality profile. A suggestion is only shown to both of you if you both say yes, and nobody can see whether you said yes or no unless you both did.
People you have connected with can see your profile info, your World things, your voice clip, your vapor, and anything you send them. Discover works differently: it can show someone you haven't connected with yet your display name, your recorded voice clip, and your vapor, so they can send you a rose. Nobody ever sees your exact location, your account email, or your vote history. Files you upload (photos, voice clips, vapor recordings) are stored privately by us and are only served to signed-in Human Rose accounts.
Human Rose is not directed at, and may not be used by, anyone under 18.
If how we handle data changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
